No formal preparation is needed for any of the tests. Arrive 10 mins prior to your scheduled booking time. Continue to take all your medications as normal unless notified by the Cardiologist otherwise. Wear light comfy clothing, you may be asked to change into a patient gown. No fasting is required for any of the tests however the stress test does involve a degree of physical exercise so keep this in mind. Ultrasound is a safe painless procedure which makes it a unique imaging modality within the health industry.

You can drive yourself to and from the procedure, in most circumstances you will be able to drive home at the completion of the test however with some critical conditions the cardiologist may request an ambulance to a desired destination.

During the procedure:

  • ECG dots will be attached to your chest to monitor your hearts rate and rhythm.
  • Ultrasound Gel will be applied to your chest, stomach and neck.
  • A probe called a transducer is moved around on your chest, stomach and base of the neck.
  • You may be asked to hold your breath and lie on your side.
  • Images of your heart will be seen on a computer screen.
  • The images will be recorded and given to our reporting doctor for review.
  • You may be asked to fill in a patient satisfaction survey at the completion of the test.
