The transthoracic echocardiogram, or TTE, is a diagnostic ultrasound of the heart. It’s non-invasive and uses high-frequency sound waves to generate detailed images of the heart so we assess the size and function of the heart and heart valves.
To get these images, our cardiac sonographers gently move an imaging probe across different sites on your chest. These images assist the cardiologist in their clinical assessment/diagnosis.
One of the best aspects of the TTE is its non-invasive nature. No injections, no incisions, just a simple probe moving over your chest. For the procedure, we’ll ask you to undress from the waist up. But, to ensure your comfort, we’ll provide a gown for you to wear throughout the examination.
You can expect to spend about 30 minutes with us for the TTE. This allows our sonographer to thoroughly complete the ultrasound.
